this week's progress

I set myself some fairly aggressive goals for this week and guess what I made them..  Monday I went to a sewing group for the day.   I had a good visit with everyone and glad to see our leader Pat coming for awhile  she has been having health issues.  I worked on quilt as you go string blocks  and got 10 done. I know doesn't seem like much  but we quit early  about 2 pm  due to the heat. the building we meet in is a 4-H building with not air conditioning and can't forget lunch..

Tuesday I quilted a customer quilt, it was made from polyester squares, my longarm machine did not like it one bit so did straight line quilting on my Bernia 1230   it didn't mind.   this was one of two to do.      Then in the evening  Bonnie Hunter had quilt cam so I sewed more string blocks while listening.

Wednesday  I quilted the other polyester quilt  the same way as the other one..    Binding is one both of them and ready to deliver on Friday.

today I quilted another customer quilt  a baby quilt. Long arm liked that one.   Then did another one which took a little thinking to make the back fit the front.   Customer had designed it to but the back on the diagonal  so it just fit but that one is done too.

Now I can go away for the weekend and not think of what needs to be done that didn't get done..
I have my family reunion on Saturday in northwest Ill.  So glad we are trying to keep this going all of the parents are gone now  so it is the cousins to get together to visit once a year...   take potluck lunch and kids play in the park.

bye for now
Happy quilting

shop hop

on Thursday 4 of us started out on a shop hop  collecting row by row experience patterns/kits.  Then we got to Missouri and found out they were doing a shop hop along US 36 so we added those shops to our agenda.  We went across the state in 2 days     spent the night in Cameron MO  and went to Missour Star Quilt Co   Friday afternoon  amazing place.   We had a wonderful time. We plan to do this again next year..

baby quilts

now I can post pictures of the baby quilts I have made.  In June on got a great nephew and a great niece  9 days apart.  my 2 nieces that are sisters had these babies.  will be so nice for them to grow up together and they live close together.  I went to see them yesterday for the first time.   It was hard to wait but wanted to give the families time to settle in with a new baby.    We had a great day yesterday snuggling both of them   Here is a picture of them on their quilts.  Hope to see them again soon.

retrea

I hosted a retreat at my house this past weekend.  Had a great group of ladies attend.  they got a lot done.   I do the cooking and cleaning up  they just sew.   I am here to help them if they needed/wanted it.   Helped 2 ladies start a pineapple quilt from a panel  they bought the kits at LQS .   three of them brought featherweight machines to use.  makes me want to get mine out and sew on it....   maybe I will soon.      here is a picture of the lunch I made on Saturday  so fun to use different dishes  and fix pretty meals.  contact me to schedule your retreat and get a lot of sewing done.

row by row experience

I have been working on the row by row experience  this is fun.  I have put together 8 rows  from 8 shops   now to get it quilted  hopefully today and tomorrow  so that I can get it to a shop that hasn't had a winner yet....   have acquired several kits for these  which I am going to make into wall hangings.  here is a picture of it unquilted.

tavern blues blocks

I took a class last weekend in Olney Ill.  from Jean Shaw,  she is a great teacher.  As most of you know you don;t get a lot done in class but   everyone got one block done and started on a second one. I learned several great tips  which were worth the price of the class.   All of my blocks will be different accent fabric and the same background fabric.     the first picture is the one I did in class.  and I did 2 more blocks tonight the lighter blue one I started in class.     will be a great quilt when I am done.   Not sure when that will be but will keep working on it in between other projects.

fun project

Worked on a customer T-shirt quilt today  got all the blocks laid out waiting approval then will put together with sashing.
This week I have been cleaning sewing area downstairs.  I found a section of strips sewn together left from a bargelo wall hanging. was going to put in scrap bin for strings but came across a wall hanging project on the internet  using strings. I decided to use this piece I found  as the foundation. Yesterday we had a sew day at my house, so I decided to make this wall hanging.  looked in the scraps for fabric for the pot and flowers.  then found fat quarter for the back and piece for binding.  All of it came from my scraps..  Felt so good to do this.   I put binding on it tonight and sewed it down.  Putt some buttons in center of flowers.  It is done...  here is a picture of it..  may look for a butterfly button to add to it.

also worked on putting the baby girl quilt together while this was stitching.   got rows together and 2 rows sewn together...
Happy Mother's day to all

class in Olney Ill.

I had a great day yesterday with the Olney Quilt Guild in Olney Ill.   I taught the Ashleigh quilt it is like a large carpenter star.    We had a false start last Saturday due to ice and snow so rescheduled it for yesterday.  all but one could attend that was great.
they learned how to make perfect HSTs  by sewing a little large and trimming using different methods no more eights inch measurements.   They they perfected their scant quarter in seams.  Most of them got all their HST's sewn and trimmed up couple started to sew the blocks together.  Here is a picture of the group.

Monday progress report

Well Sunday I finished the quilt in the machine and put binding on it so ready to go out the door customer will sew binding done.  Sunday night  I got all the units done for my Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt Grand Illusions now I am ready to put the blocks together into a quilt.   I also got 2 blocks of my pineapple crazy quilt which is a Bonnie Hunter pattern  done.  This uses very small scraps  about an inch in width   great place to use the triangles what are from other projects.   Made these while watching the Grammy's.
Monday  I cleaned up my sewing room and cut some more flannel squares for rag quilts. Started looking at the next customer quilt to see what to quilt on it   Found couple of stencils of snowflakes that will work since this is a Christmas quilt.  Need to make the back and load it into the machine that will be Tuesday's   job.
happy sewing

progress report

Here is a progress report of last couple of days.  I have been quilting on a customer's cross stitch quilt creating a design to fit the blocks due to the blue dots that are usually on the blocks are not there.  I have most of it done just need to go back over each block and put few more curly cues in each block.

Our sewing group is making rag quilts to donate to the police department, so enlisted my Mother-in-Law to help us and this is getting her back into sewing.  We are cutting the blocks and batting she is sewing the blocks together then we are sewing blocks together into quilts and then she is doing the cutting of the edges.  We have 3 ready to snip this week.

I have been working on Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt  Grand Illusions,  I have gotten part of clue 3 and  clue 4 to finish.   Here is pictures of part of clue 4  the green/neutral/black pieces and clue 5.   Hope in another week I can have all the blocks made and ready to put it together.

Weds sew day

Had a great day sewing on Weds with some friends. We try to sew together every 3rd Weds. We do a potluck lunch this week I put some soup in crock pot.  I finished up making the last of four purses to sell in Catherine's Gallery in Sullivan, and put borders on a top that had been sitting from a class 3 years ago.  I also helped 2 friends with their projects, one is making a scrap quilt in vertical rows with black in between so helped her lay out the rows to sew together on the design wall and helped other friend finish a top to make into a shower curtain. All in all a very productive day for all of us.
This is the quilt I put borders on.

Christmas is finally over at our house

Well this isn't quilty, but finally got the last of the outdoor Christmas decorations taken down and put away. The lights have been turned off since News Years Day  but too cold to take them down. It was a little chilly outside today with the wind, but not bad temps.  They are predicting some snow maybe tomorrow  so glad we got this done today.   Now back to quilting.
